Be first on the mountain. Gartenhotel Daxer is cosy, charming and wonderfully peaceful – a family-run retreat away from Zell's crowds. Three lifts and ski school on your doorstep, pool, sauna and hearty half-board waiting. Exactly as skiing should feel.
Gartenhotel Daxer is a family-run gem tucked quietly above Zell am See, offering the best of both worlds: peaceful Alpine surroundings away from the town's bustle, yet unbeatable access to the slopes. Three cable cars – the Schmittenhöhebahn, Sonnenalmbahn and TrassXPress – sit just a three-minute walk from the front door, connecting you to the entire Zell am See-Kaprun ski area and its 138 kilometres of terrain. The ski school meeting point is right on the doorstep, making mornings blissfully easy for families with little ones learning the ropes. If you like to be first on the mountain, this is where you want to wake up.
Run by the same family for three generations, the hotel radiates genuine Austrian warmth. The chalet-style interiors are cosy without being fussy – think wooden floors, traditional furnishings and balconies with mountain views. Rooms range from snug doubles to spacious quad rooms, all designed with comfort in mind. The half-board is generously done: a hearty breakfast buffet sets you up for the day, afternoon cake and snacks refuel you après-ski, and a four-course dinner with four mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option) rounds things off perfectly. Complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks flow throughout the day (from 7.30 am until 8.00 pm).
After a day carving up the Schmittenhöhe, the wellness area offers a welcome wind-down. Sink into the heated indoor pool, loosen tired muscles in the Finnish or herbal sauna, or simply stretch out in the relaxation room. Families will appreciate thoughtful touches like the children's play area, heated ski storage with boot warmers, and cots and high chairs on request. It's relaxed, it's welcoming, and it delivers exactly what a ski holiday should – great skiing, genuine hospitality and a base you'll genuinely look forward to coming back to.
This property is offered on a Half Board Plus basis. Dinner is 4 course. Vegetarian and special dietary requirements can be catered for on request. Buffet breakfast is included. Special Christmas and New Year dinner is included. Afternoon Snack Complimentary Soft and Hot Drinks

Three cable cars – Schmittenhöhebahn, Sonnenalmbahn and TrassXPress – are just a three-minute walk from the hotel, giving direct access to the entire Zell am See-Kaprun ski area. The ski school meets right beside the lifts. Situated 2km above the town centre, it's a peaceful retreat from Zell's lively après-ski scene – ideal for families and early risers.
Welcome to Austria! I’m Lucy, originally from County Cork and a lifelong ski enthusiast. Having grown up hitting the slopes with my family, skiing has always been my favorite kind of holiday. When I’m not planning events, you’ll find me exploring new places, enjoying a good coffee, or catching up with friends. I can’t wait to help make your ski trip as memorable and magical as mine have always been.
Hi everyone, my name is Sadhbh. I’m from Dublin and I’ve been obsessed with skiing since my first trip to the Alps 8 years ago. Many of my own ski holidays have been to Austria, so I am beyond delighted to be based here this winter season as one of your Resort Managers with Topflight! I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge of the area and love for skiing with you all and helping you have the most unforgettable holiday experience!
My name is Lynsey and I have huge passion for both winter and summer sports, having worked for Topflight for over 10 years in Austria, France, Andorra and Italy. As an avid skier and snowboarder, you'll find me making the most of slopes during the winter months and in the summer I swap my skis for sandals to enjoy all that Lake Garda has to offer. I couldn’t possibly choose which season I prefer, I’ve skied since I was 5 years old and I can never get enough but there’s also something really magical about the spending the summer on Lake Garda.
